Bleu - Sargeant Pepper Grinder

Bleu has officially released his 7th studio album (or 8th - or 9th - depending on who you ask! ;-), Sargeant Pepper Grinder, out now via Miracle Records, with vinyl mastering handled by Licorice Pizza Records.

A true windows-down, volume-up record, it effortlessly balances radio-ready pop-rock, 1970s Jeff Lynne-style arrangements, Rundgren-esque bombast, and high-energy glam. Beyond the infectious melodies, the record carries heartfelt resonance as a tribute to lost friends and longtime collaborators—most notably the late Ducky Carlisle, the three-time Grammy-winning engineer and producer behind Boston’s Ice Station Zebra studio, who helped shape classic Bleu albums like Redhead and Four.

Track Highlights

"Start a Band" – A driving, guitar-forward rock track that directly reflects on Bleu’s early days and his friendship and studio work with Ducky Carlisle.

"This Song Won't Sell" – Plays heavily with contrast, shifting between quiet, contemplative verses and explosive, hard-hitting chorus dynamics.

"Where the Colors Bleed" – Built around layered vocal harmonies and late-70s production textures, featuring Los Angeles singer-songwriter Carly Paige on co-lead vocals.

"Scooch" – Upbeat glam-rock with prominent lead guitars and high-register vocal hooks.

"Shiny Dimes" – Driven by pizzicato string arrangements and an acoustic midsection, concluding with guest vocals from Bleu’s son, William McAuley IV.

"In the Red" – An upbeat, 80s-inspired pop-rock collaboration with guest vocalist Kelly Jones.

Rooney - Kids After Sunset (The Lost Album): Interview with Taylor Locke & Ned Brower (Bandmates from Rooney)

Bandmates Taylor Locke and Ned Brower took the time to talk about a special chapter in the history of Rooney : the "lost" second album, Kids After Sunset ! I reached out to both of them separately and asked if they could answer a few questions - check it out below. Over the past 20 years, aplenty songs from this album surfaced online and were shared through blogs, fans, and social media. These were mostly demos or low-quality recordings, but in 2024, a seemingly final version of the album appeared on the internet! Kids After Sunset - cover art concept PPS:   Around 2004, Rooney recorded a significant number of songs for their intended second album,  Kids After Sunset - at least twenty-five tracks, as far as I know. The plan was for most of these songs to be included on the album. However, it is said that the record label rejected nearly all of them, claiming they didn’t like any of the tracks, and instructed the band to start from scratch with a completely new album. I...

Jason Falkner - Biography & Discography

There is this kind of musician who is writing, releasing records and performing his own music for more than two decades - but misses the aim that is chart success? The one who creates stunning music and don't get any recognition by public, but by his loyal fans? One of them is Jason Falkner . To sum it up: he may be one of the most underrated musicians of the last two decades. What a pity! Falkner started his musical career with a band called The Three O'Clock but soon he joined a new band of his former bandmate (Roger Joseph Manning Jr.) - Jellyfish . After the success of the first record ( Bellybutton ) he left the band and said he'll be never again a band member again (where he was clearly wrong). His solo career started in 1996 with Presents Author Unknown , followed with the fabulous Can You Still Feel? . I recommend to listen to Can You Still Feel? from start to finish - there's no filler song, no low point. 2001 was a good year for loyal fan...

CD Review: Ned Brower - Great To Say Hello

"Are you high Ned? Drummers don't make solo records. Next you're going to tell me you've actually gone and written some songs. Say it isn't so." It is - Ned Brower , the drummer of Rooney has a solo album called " Great To Say Hello " out for some weeks. The songs were produced by no other than Mike Viola and recorded in just 10 days. Ned says, the album "has been in my mental works for a couple of years". It's a mix of styles, yet it fits in the end. Ned: "I think we made a record that blends my northwest indie roots, my southern R&B leanings, and my Californian pop sensibility into an eclectic yet cohesive album. " Here are some short notes to some standout tracks: " Underneath You Spell " is a great upbeat opener, " Love And Affection #3 " has powerpop written all over it and " Hide Your Secrets Away " immediately got stuck in my head. " Mine And Mine Alone " is just groovy...
