RECORD STORE DAY!

It's this special time of the year again! It's Record Store Day!

On the 16th of April 2011 the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. On Record Store Day there are special releases on vinyl & CD and exclusive promotional products. It's more than 700 stores in the US and hundreds more worldwide.

There are two releases I especially like to mention:

Plasticsoul & Brandon Schott
Celebrating Big Star's Third (ltd edition vinyl) there will be a Plasticsoul & Brandon Schott collaboration - a cover of Thank You Friends. You can have it here - but it's limited to 200 (digital) copies!
Featuring Steven Wilson (of Plasticsoul) on lead vocals and acoustic guitar & Brandon Schott on background vocals, ukulale and toy piano. Recorded completely live to 4-track cassette in the living room of Brandon's then empty new house on May 10, 2010. So get it - fast!

Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters release Medium Rare, a collection of cover songs, including very impressive versions of Band On The Run (Wings), Have A Cigar (Pink Floyd) and Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty). It's their second release within one week! Their "proper" new album Wasting Light is already available. And it's fab! (just listen to the first two songs Burning Bridges and Rope!)

Jason Falkner - Biography & Discography

There is this kind of musician who is writing, releasing records and performing his own music for more than two decades - but misses the aim that is chart success? The one who creates stunning music and don't get any recognition by public, but by his loyal fans? One of them is Jason Falkner . To sum it up: he may be one of the most underrated musicians of the last two decades. What a pity! Falkner started his musical career with a band called The Three O'Clock but soon he joined a new band of his former bandmate (Roger Joseph Manning Jr.) - Jellyfish . After the success of the first record ( Bellybutton ) he left the band and said he'll be never again a band member again (where he was clearly wrong). His solo career started in 1996 with Presents Author Unknown , followed with the fabulous Can You Still Feel? . I recommend to listen to Can You Still Feel? from start to finish - there's no filler song, no low point. 2001 was a good year for loyal fan...

Pulp - More (new album!)

Pulp's 'More': The Return Following a 24-year break, Britpop icons Pulp return with their eighth studio album, More , set for release on June 6, 2025, via Rough Trade Records. It marks their first full-length studio project since We Love Life in 2001. The album was recorded over the course of three weeks in late 2024 at Orbb Studio in Walthamstow, London, with James Ford handling production.   The Creative Process Pulp’s 2023 reunion tour rekindled their creative energy, with the spark first catching fire during soundchecks where they began working on a new track, “Hymn of the North.” This moment marked the beginning of a highly productive songwriting phase that continued throughout 2024. Interestingly, despite Jarvis Cocker’s use of AI in the video for the lead single “Spike Island,” the album itself was created entirely without the aid of artificial intelligence. Album and Track Details More comprises 11 tracks: Spike Island Tina Grown Ups Slow Jam Farm...
