Emitt Rhodes - Discography

It's always a seldom and special moment when I discover a musical gem in the endless pile of musical history. A few weeks ago I had this moment with Emitt Rhodes.

Emitt Rhodes is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer. He was member and multi-instrumentalist of The Merry-Go-Round at A&M Records until they disbanded in 1969. To fulfil that contract at A&M Records, he continued writing song, but they weren't released.

For his first solo record ("Emitt Rhodes") he decided to move from A&M to ABC/Dunhill Records. Maybe because the album reached number 29 on the Billboard charts, A&M decided to release the old songs. "The American Dream" confused record buyers.
"Mirror" was released in 1971 and "Farewell to Paradise" in 1973 - both with disappointing sales. Rhodes' contract with Dunhill forced him to put out a new record every six months for a period of three years. It was impossible to fulfil, so Dunhill sued him for $250,000.
After "Farewell to Paradise" and this great deal of annoyance he stopped performing and releasing music.

43 years later (!), his new record ("Rainbow Ends") will be out February 16, 2016 at Omnivore recordings.

The one who creates stunning music and don't get any recognition by public, but by his loyal fans? One of them is Jason Falkner . Bandmates Taylor Locke and Ned Brower took the time to talk about a special chapter in the history of Rooney : the "lost" second album, Kids After Sunset ! I reached out to both of them separately and asked if they could answer a few questions - check it out below. Over the past 20 years, aplenty songs from this album surfaced online and were shared through blogs, fans, and social media. These were mostly demos or low-quality recordings, but in 2024, a seemingly final version of the album appeared on the internet!
